Praying

It doesn't have to be
the blue iris, it could be
weeds in a vacant lot, or a few
small stones; just
pay attention, then patch

a few words together and don't try
to make them elaborate, this isn't
a contest but the doorway

into thanks, and a silence in which
another voice may speak

- Mary Oliver

who is this love monk?

Martha Kay Nelson is spending her 40th year committed to serious spiritual practice. Instead of heading to the monastery, she has invited the rhythm of monastic life into the community she already inhabits. MK took both Christian and Buddhist vows before her awesome support council on July 15, 2013. The entire year is devoted to daily prayer and practice; the intent is to slow down, get quiet and listen for God. Out of this adventure a book will grow, exploring what can happen if we just give the whole shebang to Love.
